I’ve produced quite a few ocean-based comics lately (which I have yet to post, I know). I based this one off of an idea titled “Things that only make sense on a tiny tropical island”. Eventually, I took it in a different direction, but I still believe the original would have made for a chuckleworthy comic (maybe it still will, who knows).
The tiny tropical island is every lazy artist’s dream – every backdrop is the endless ocean. Jokes aside, it reminds me a bit of Little Prince’s tiny asteroid, but that’s probably about the only parallel I can draw here.
Limited spaces in creative fiction have always had a certain appeal in my regard. Each pass through the space uncovers something new that we missed in previous iterations. The excitement lies in uncovering new things, while under the impression that we’ve already seen it all.
